(Alderley Edge, Cheshire] Fosters

  • 2

I've waxed lyrical before about Fosters Chippy in Didsbury. Now we've been to the mother ship, out in Cheshire's "golden triangle". And it's just as good. Everything you want a chippy to be. Everything you expect a chippy to be - but rarely is.

We're a cod area in this part of the world, so the easiest way to guarantee absolutely fresh fried fish is to order haddock. So we did.

Beautiful batter. So crisp and not oily. Good tasty fish - perhaps just a tad overcooked but I'm really being picky there.

Proper chipshop chips - and a goodly portion. And they offer freebie seconds if you want.

Decent mushy peas - a lurid green, of course, but with some texture. And a couple of slices of pappy supermarket white sliced - perfect for the chip butty.

My only peeve.....the waitress pointed out the menu offering of the "pensioners special". Pensioners' special, indeed! Do I look the sort of man who only wants a 5oz fish.

  1. Another spot-on review, Harters. Love this place and it has the edge on its newer Didsbury outpost I'd say.

Except Didsbury is not only nearer for me, it's a bleeding sight easier to park. Alderley was heaving and it was only a midweek lunchtime.
