I'm taking my SUNY daughter and her 3 roomies out to dinner Tuesday for her birthday. She understands financial limitations so anything(other than a chain resto) are fine. But maybe a decent place that could be fun?

If you want to stay close to UAlbany, Caffe Italia on Central Ave is an old (really old) favorite, not very hip, though, for 20-year-olds. A little hipper, but still in Albany might be Lombardos, which still has a little bit of a vibe. If you head up to Saratoga Springs, Chianti or Forne Toscana are much more fun and have better food; so does Wheatfields in Saratoga. There's Tesoro, in Colonie. In Schenectady, Aperitivo Bistro is pretty cool. All of these are in the moderate-price-range for the area.
