Commerce corner

Is anyone aware of a commerce corner for spirits. There are many places to go to buy/sell/trade wine. Anything for Spirits?

  1. The laws governing the two are very different, and some places that *can* ship wine canNOT ship spirits . . . so, for example and depending upon where you live, K&L may ship to you

Zin - the weird thing about K&L is they told me the can't ship spirits to NC - even though I have had no trouble with orders from other Cali retailers (Hi-Time, as well as several other states.

I can't get K&L to ship me wine or spirits in VA. I had to get wine order shipped to me on vacation in NC once, because they had something no one else did. Likewise, I have no problem with folks like Hi-Time; they just shipped out a spirits order to me last night.

    2. Not sure what you mean by commerce corner - a place where individuals can buy/sell/trade spirits amongst themselves? Again, the limitations are largely governed by shipping laws, which are a nightmare to navigate. Moreover, the laws in my state (VA) don't allow me to ship any alcoholic beverages to others.

Your best bet would be to find, or create, such a group locally where you can exchange the bottles in person.

I think someone here (JMF? Evergreen Dan?) has hosted parties where folks split up and share bottles of sparsely used, rare, or weird spirits (say pine needle eau de vies, Galliano or amaros) to defray the cost of trying new and unusual drinks.

Yes, I organized an ingredient swap party. Those who came where pretty happy. I still have some Thyme liqueur, for example, that I got there.

The idea was to share bottles, rather than liquidate rare bottles.

      2. Since ebay stopped alcohol sales a few months ago I have been looking for a place to sell some of my rarer bottels of spirits. No luck so far and I have asked a lot of folks in the spirits industry.
