Robson/Denman Musings

Sam Salmon Mar 28, 2013 07:28 PM

Guu w/Garlic is Open for Lunch now-quite a tasty lunch it was too-a tad odd being in that place during the day it's much quieter but still warm & welcoming.

Looks like Afghan Chopan is opening up on Robson but isn't quite ready.

Lastly-Ukrainian Village on Denman is NOT CLOSED their website seems to have different info but the place was serving all day today.

I recently visited the Pork Belly Beer house and noticed that the format of their buffet has changed slightly.

Instead of having the gas grills, they now have electric (I guess it was a safety issue).

They now also have pre-cooked spicy pork, korean beef and fried chicken.

it was pretty tasty but still just as eccentric as it was the last time I was there.

I recently saw a small ad from them in one of the mainstream Chinese newspaper in restaurant ad section. So among the older Chinese community their are known.

I wish I could post a pic of the restaurant ad section from either Ming Pao or Sing Tao.

It is unique phenomenal I haven't seen in English papers. Imagine pages of restaurant ads with specialties and 10 course meal menus and their prices.

Afghan Chopan-tried it this weekend. Very good kebabs, they were done well and very moist. The side vegetable dish was a spicy eggplant-really tasty and not oily. It wasn't busy on a Friday night, perhaps people aren't aware they're open? Really hope they will stay in business, it's a nice alternative for the downtown area.

Their location the second floor is a real challenge. Good luck to them.
