Rotten onions?

Has anybody else gotten a lot of deteriorated, mushy onions from the supermarkets lately?

  1. Yes, they've been HORRIBLE -- so bad that if I'm shopping at Winn-Dixie I get frozen ones instead. (I also keep a big container of dried onions from Costco around, mostly to use in meatloaf, but in a pinch . . . ).

    1. It's part the time of year (even modern "root cellars" can only hold produce so long) and part the weather - onions not protected from a frost in transport/delivery/storage will turn to mush, and we have had some unpredictable weather.

      2. yep. i had a difficult time finding 3 decent ones in the bin at Giant this past weekend.

          Does it matter what type? Spanish, yellow white etc?

            I was looking for white onions, which we prefer to yellow. I buy from the bins because the onions in the bags always seem so small.

        2. I did a couple of months ago from Publix. More recent purchases haven't been rotten but they appear to be a little old.

            Publix?!?!?! I LOVE PUBLIX!!! Is there Publix in Philadelphia? Anywhere in the region?!?!
