Las Vacas Gordas

This is a restaurant that's been mentioned on this site many times....and I had the opportunity to visit last night and we had a great meal there.....It's located on the north side of Miami Beach on Normandy.....It has outside seating but it was a bit brisk last night for that.....

This is an Argentenian restaurant with very cool decor and the place was packed....but they found a table for the three of us and away we went....

We ordered the Pollo Millanesa....It was $27 which I thought to be a bit pricey....Our came this MONSTER of a pollo millanesa.....It was 3 feet wide.....and the breading was not overly thick....heavy garlic infused....and it was delicious....We're big eaters and this EASILY feeds three hungry people....Easily!

We also ordered the "rolled up steak"....It was really a long "entrana" steak....Although not very wide....this steak was also about 3 feet long.....and again....would EASILY feed 3 hungry adults.....Ordered medium rare.....but would order medium next time.....It was delicious with and without the chimichurrri that was heavily laced with garlic and not sure that everyone would love....(but we did!)........

As sides we ordered "ensalada rusa" which translates to 'Russian Salad" and it's potato salad....a little heavy on the mayo but still very, very good......We also ordered a sauteed side of spinach....which was very good as well....but we were surprised that it didn't have the same level of garlic infusion as our other dishes....We tossed some of the chimichurri on there...mixed it around....and we were off to the races!

This is a popular restaurant as it was packed out on a Tuesday night.....They were also playing the Uruguay / Chile soccer match and perhaps that was a draw.....and of course Argentenians love their futbol.....So it was lively but not raucous....

The only dart we could throw was the level of service.....it was good but not very good or excellent.....Once we received our food and drinks they pretty much disappeared.....and we were left to beg for water.....To be fair....this might be "South American Service".......very casual and easy-going.....We would have liked a bit more attention.....

That said....we really enjoyed Las Vacas Gordas.....Loved the decor and atmosphere....The parking lot attendant was extremely warm and welcoming....The food was ABSURDLY HUGE.....and that's great too.....Next time we go....(and we will)....we'll order one piece of meat (which by the way is at least 1.5 pounds)....a couple of sides and go from there.....

Worth the trip!
