Coriander root in Triangle?

Has anyone seen coriander root anywhere for sale? Looking especially on the Chapel Hill/Carrboro/Durham side of the Triangle. Do farmers markets sometimes have this? Thanks very much for any information or help you can give me.

  1. A while back I was looking for celery root, asked the produce manager at my local Harris Teeter and within two days he had it on the shelf for me. You may be able to do the same for Coriander root.

that's a thought, though Celeriac is easily available, I get mine at Weaver St. for chicken soup. I'd suggest calling Around the World Market since it's used in what? Thai recipes.

Thanks to both of you. I've seen (and used) celery root often and don't have any problem finding that, but this is one I've never seen before. I will try World Market, but i did wonder if anyone had seen it at any of the Asian markets or a farmers market just in case. Seems like it isn't that easy to find even in big cities. Appreciate the help!

I don't think World Market would help -- you have to use it fresh (at least in all the Charmaine Solomon recipes I have seen.) I'll bet if you ask the herb sellers at the Carrboro Farmer's market they'll pull some with the roots -- I used to get it (along with the cilantro leaves on the top) at my farmer's market in California.

Great idea. Next time I go I will ask around. Thanks.

We bought some a while back at the Durham Farmers market. I'm not sure, but I think it was still available last Saturday.

Great to know. I'm going to try Carrboro's market first since it is closer, but just knowing it is around helps.

Oh no - I was thinking about turmeric at the Durham market.

I haven't seen any coriander/cilantro root there. I didn't even know the root was used.

I love the greens, so I think I would like the root too.

Thanks for letting me know. I remember my tumeric root search a year or two ago. Ended up finding it - maybe even at Harris Teeter, surprisingly enough.

I've never had coriander root (that I know of), and it showed up as an ingredient in a recipe I'd like to make. No time like the present to try it!
