Good food shopping near/in Kissimmee area?

Going to be staying in Kissimmee area for a week in April... In a condo with a full kitchen. Hoping to find a good place to shop for local seafood, good produce, and even a good butcher shop? Also any recommendations for a cheese shop or wine store would also be appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

Mike

  1. Hmm, thinking by the lack of responses that there might not be so many good options there. What about, Southern Orlando area?

There's a gigantic Whole Foods on Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road, right off I-4 on Exit 72. They're also going to have high-quality (but expensive) meat, produce, and cheese, and decent (but expensive) seafood. Most of the other higher-end grocery stores are going to be much further north, but that Whole Foods is in southern Orlando.

EDIT: Apparently there is also a Fresh Market in southern Orlando, a few miles off I-4 from Exit 78. I had no idea! It's a nice gourmet grocery store, but I think the Whole Foods is still closer to you (further south), and probably a lot larger.

There is also a Publix Sabor supermarket in Kissimmee, but I've never been to one of those. There are only a few locations, mostly in South Florida, all aimed at the Hispanic market. I've heard they have excellent selections of unique produce and meat that you can't find at most Publixes, so that would probably be worth a visit, especially if you're from an area that doesn't have much of a Hispanic population (London?).

Other than that, we just have regular Publix supermarkets everywhere, which are okay for meat and produce, but not anything special. You'll probably rely on it for staples, though.

Sounds good Lou! Thanks for the intel. Any ideas of a good spot for wine shopping?

Unfortunately I don't drink, so I don't know where wine stores would be on that end of town (which is pretty far from me). Whole Foods, Fresh Market, and Publix all have large wine selections, though, so you might be able to get everything you need in one place.

Also on Orange Blossom Trail is Knightly Spirits. It's in what I think used to be a grocery store but they have plenty of wines, liqueurs and beers.

Fat Boy's Barbecue is a local favorite.

      2. There are 2 Total Wine stores in Orlando. They will not only have the best prices, they will have the largest selection. We have one in Ft Myers and it is my go to store for anything liquor.

If you are in Orlando for a meal, try Tu Tu Tango on International Dr (I Drive to the locals). It is all tapas and they usually have local artists displayed along with some fun entertaining, like belly dancers. Still clean enough to bring the kids, if you have any with you.

        1. Publix is a supermarket that can have some great items. I strongly recommend the mango and key lime pies, as well as some of the best fried chicken around.
