Great Burgers on South Shore of LI? (Suffolk)

CurlieGlamourGirlie Mar 24, 2013 08:49 PM

I have a lot of great burger places stashed away in my mental files. They're either in Nassau near work or on the north shore. I have yet to find a great burger close to home (Islip).

Any suggestions?

I like the burgers at the Good Steer in Lake Grove. It is a distance away from Islip. The thin, breaded onions on the side are delicious. Prices are reasonable. Not the best, but very good.

Have you tried Howards Pub in Patchogue? It's in the Waldbaums shopping center. We can't be in the area without stopping in. It looks like your typical workingclass pub (complete with the best waitresses, they are outstanding), but the burgers are as delicious as any I've had at upscale place. Plus the fries are big, juicy, homemade ones.... unless you get the waffle fries; but my advice, don't! you gotta try their "home fries" as they call them.

For $10.95, you get a burger (or grilled chicken cutlet or veggie burger)on a kaiser bun, with choice of two toppings, a salad for the table with the complete, old fashioned dressing setup, and all the beer or wine you can drink. It's a bargain, but also a great meal that we look forward to, time and again.

It's a little far from me, but will add them to my list! Was looking more for a recommendation in the Islip/Bay Shore area. Even Babylon.

That is definitely a bargain though that I'm going to have to try!!

You are absolutely right! I was going to post it myself, glad you mentioned it. Neat old place with character, too!

It's been a while for me, but I've enjoyed the burgers at Five Points Cafe in Sayville:
burgers are their speciality. And a tad closer than Patchogue.

Dynasty Cafe on Union Blvd behind Southside Hospital in Bay Shore is easy to miss (you might mistake it for a house, bar or realty office) This is a good old fashioned luncheonette (I think they close at 3:30 pm during the week) with awesome burgers cooked on a cast iron grill (nice fries also). Service is slower than a diner because everything is lovingly made to order, but it's worth the wait. Great breakfast spot also. Open Sat and Sun, but they close around 2 or so.

I'll vouch for Reese's burgers also. Was there for the first time in a few years and burgers were as good as I remembered. It's a small place so there's a wait for a table at busy times but like Dynasty Cafe it's worth it.

I haven't been yet but I keep hearing good things about the burgers and wings at Evenflow in Bay Shore.

Winnie's in Bay Shore on Main has nice burgers also cast iron grilled, but they seem to be continually closed for renovations.

Winnie's: closed by order of Fire Marshall--I never found out the circumstances. It doesn't seem that the problem was ever rectified.

Jon Thomas Inne in Brightwaters has great burgers and Monday nights I think they are a dollar off.
