I don't want to be accused of shilling for this place, but I had a shrimp fest of major league proportions over the past two days at DON PEPE on Blackstone in Fresno.
Day 1: The amazing shrimp cocktail with a dozen plump jumbo shrimp swimming in a goblet with avocado, onion, cilantro, and tomato all in a light tangy juice. Plus shrimp hanging off the side of the goblet. Gigantic and delicious.
Day 2: Shrimp tostada: 5 or 6 jumbo shrimp on with the aformentioned cilantro, avocado, and tomato. Sprinkle a little hot sauce and its ready to savor.
Then, Shrimp Borrecha. This is 13 jumbo shrimp split and grilled in their shells in a garlic butter sauce. Then piled on top of a salad of shredded cabbage, diced tomato, cilantro, and fat ripe avocado slices.
Very low prices. Very authentic.
This place is in The Vinny Clams Hall of Fame. Great chow.
Any other great authentic Mexican seafood in Fresno?

  1. Another great shrimp dish, though not nearly in the same price catagory, is the Camarones Caliente at Salsa's (SW corner of Herndon/Palm). The shrimp's very spicy and the restaurant is really nice. It also has very upscale tequila bar.

After your description, a trip to Don Pepe's is a "must". I just wish the environment was a little bit nicer--but on the other hand, it is authentic.

    1. Yes, the shrimp at Don Pepe is amazing. Coupla things, however - the "Shrimp Borrecha" you mention is called "Shrimp Botana"

And truly as good as the shrimp is the burrito pastor. Be sure to order the regular burrito pastor, not the super burrito. The super burrito has rice and avocado that destroys the delicate textural balance.
