I need a good pasta/family place for the night before the Pittsburgh Marathon please? Will be staying downtown but anywhere in the vicinity would be fine.

Staying in line with the marathon, the Spagetti Warehouse holds a Pasta Party that is attended by a large number of runners. Spagetti Warehouse is located in the Strip District, and is easy to get to from downtown. In Station Square (also easy from downtown) is a Buca Di Beppo. While these aren't top Italian restaurants, they might be in line with what you are looking for.

Papa J's Centro downtown. Lidia's in the Strip. Dish in the Southside. Personally, I don't think Pittsburgh has a plethora of great Italian restaurants. I do like Davio's in Beechview, but they don't have as many pasta dishes as they used to.

I've been eating at Lidia's this week. I liked the pasta trio so much on Tuesday, I went back for lunch today ($15 for all you can eat, and they fill your plate up to make a nice take-home portion).

I had a ravioli stuffed with braised short rib and tossed with rosemary butter; a bowtie pasta primavera; and tagliatelle in a tomato sauce.

And the service both times was excellent.

          A+ for Lidia's Pasta Trio.
