Can anybody spare some sourdough starter?
Can anybody please spare some sourdough starter. I failed miserably around an year ago when I tried making mine with Nancy Silverston's book, "Breads from La Brea Bakery". Not having the courage to start again..........I am begging!
Anybody in Manhattan? I'd travel to any borough though to pick it up, you can email me - its is in my profile,
I can't be of help, other than to suggest mail order, and possibly a better recipe. I don't recall La Brea ever making a true sour bread, which might explain in part for the failures.
If you're good with home projects, you can try the Tartine Bread book, with detailed instructions on creating a starter that's similar to a sourdough. It takes a lot of work, and a long time to cultivate though.
Locally, the rustic bread (not their respective "sourdoughs") from Sullivan St., Amy's, and Bien Cuit are similar, and might be a resource for a starter.
