I'm going to be near the Colosseum on a Sunday and would like to know where we can have a good lunch within easy walking distance?
It is our first day (and meal) in Rome.
Thanks so much. :)

Nerone would be the obvious choice. Taverna dei Fori Imperiali gets some mixed reviews on this board, and I haven't tried it myself, but is also not far. I like Trattoria Monti, which I would consider easy walking distance--but an "easy walk" is somewhat subjective. If you're traveling from the U.S. or a similar distance, a nice leisurely Sunday lunch is the perfect thing to do on your first day. I never manage to stay awake long enough for dinner until I adjust to the time change.

Unfortunately Nerone is closed on Sunday and there is no place else particularly good that is very close to the Colosseum. Trattoria Monti (reserve yesterday) is walking distance, about 10-15 min, and the standard recommendation for a Sunday, but for only a few minutes' more walking you could reach the ghetto, etc., and have more choice. We always used to go to the Taverna dei Quaranta near the Colosseum -- has anyone been there lately? Another I keep meaning to try is Café Propaganda, but haven't got around to it.

I'd suggest Taverna dei Fori Imperiali (I'm in the camp that still loves it) or else Urbana 47. Both are very near.
