We will be driving from the DC area to Montreal in May. Looking of good food in interesting setting, not necessarily in Albany, but maybe some little town with wonderful restaurant and B&B's

We really like Pepper Jacks in Albany. Great food at low prices.

I'll suggest New World BIstro Bar in Albany.

It fits your desire for good food in an interesting setting.

from the same chef in an even more interesting setting, and in a little town, try New World Home Cooking in Saugerties

If you're interested in a particular type of food (we have great Indian and Shanghai Chinese very close to the Northway) I can give you more suggestions.

I'm not sure how far you want to be from Montreal before you stop for the night. Rhinebeck has a lot of nice restaurants and B&Bs. It's on the other side of the Hudson, but not far from exit 19-KIngston-Rhinecliff exit. Also, New Paltz is a funky little college town with nice restaurants and B&Bs.
