Torrisi vs. Recette: Tasting Menus

Hello fellow chowhounders,

My friend is moving out of NYC in about a month and we have decided that we would like to experience a great tasting menu for his last NYC hurrah. We have narrowed it down to the 7 course tasting at Recette or the 20 course tasting at Torrisi. I would love your input on which you would choose. Thank you in advance!

  1. Doesn't this really come down to whether you want Italian or French (or French-influenced)?

Never been to Recette, but did try the 7-course TM at Torrisi a while back and left sort of nonplussed.

I am open to either style of food, really just looking for the best experience overall

Neither are really your standard tasting menu restaurant level of comfort either... Small, a little loud, a little cramped. Depends what you're looking for in terms of "experience." Do you want to be pampered? Do beer, cocktails, or wine count? The Torrisi wine options are pricey and only American wines IIRC.
