We will be visiting the Dordogne in May. Half of our nights will be south of Sarlat in Montfort/Vitrac and the other half north of Sarlat in Montignac/ Les Eyzes.
The farthest that I would like to drive at night is 30 minutes.
What is the single best restaurant in this region; for the last night of the trip, price is no object.
What are the other outstanding choices in this region. We would like to find good examples of the regional cuisine.

I have wonderful memories of a very good lunch at Moulin du Roc in Champagnac de Belair, near Brantome. This was awhile ago, so many others will have a more up-to-date review. www.moulinduroc.com

I second Le Vieux Logis. We stayed there and the food was wonderful. Any of the Relais & Chateaux places will have excellent meals.

The choices are many. South of Sarlat I recommend La Gabarre in St. Julien. It is informal but delicious and not expensive at all. For a great meal in a fabulous setting Le Vieux Logis in Tremolat is terrific. The tapas lunch is a bargain.
