Any New Mexico-style restaurants in LA?

I am ever hopeful that a New Mexican restaurant will thrive around here... Anybody know of a place that serves the authentic Santa Fe flavor?

  1. I don't know of any, but will be waiting hopefully for an answer.

I know, but hope springs eternal, and if somebody brings up the topic every few years we may all get a pleasant surprise. I didn't think there were any Uzbek places either until I asked here, and that turned up a winner.

      2. Hole in the wall place called Little Joe's in Arcadia.... green and red chile and sopapillas....

        1. Hasn't been any NM food in LA since John Sedlar's Abiquiu shut down years ago. It's a real gap in our cuisine. If you're ever in Phoenix, you can go to Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico, but unless someone else turns up something closer to us, you and we are out of luck. Bummer.

          1. What do you mean by Santa Fe? Santa Fe was kind of the birth of the new southwest movement. That kind of Santa Fe?
Both Mark Miller (Coyote Cafe) and John Sedlar (St. Estephe,. Abiquiu, and now Rivera) hail from Santa Fe.

Check out Rivera - might hit the spot.

Rivera is excellent - I dined there recently - but the food served there has only a passing resemblance to New Mexico cuisine. Sedlar is drawing from all over the Hispanic world, and it's delightful but not at all traditional.

            2. I can't vouch for quality/comparison, but there's a fairly recently opened New Mexico-style restaurant in, of all places, Lancaster: MMM Stuffed.

              1. I wish there was. I have family from New Mexico so when the craving hits, I end up making my own NM-style chile verde at home.

                1. this is one of my pet peeves. look at any SW airlines flight from LAX to ABQ and they are packed with people. Look at the lines that form to buy green chile when the roasting starts (only a couple more weeks). and yet nobody has started a decent new mexican restaurant here? it's just crazy. and if i wasn't so lazy, i'd do it myself.
