Trip Report - Dallas with Teenagers

  • 3

Thanks to everyone who helped us out with ideas for our trip. It seemed to go by a bit too fast and time was shorter than we expected, so we didn't get to many of the places we wanted, but here is our review of where we managed to go.
Went to Fearings for dinner one night. It was really, really, really good. We had the Fearing version of surf and turf with the chicken fried lobster - absolutely amazing. The rib eye was cooked to perfection and served with tempura asparagus and a corn and jalapeno souffle on the side. They had a Halibut special served over risotto which was delicious.
Notable appetizers were the lobster bisque and a trio of crab cakes, duck tamale and mini lobster tacos. Everything was amazing including the salads and desserts. This was definitely a memorable meal. No wonder many have said this is the best restaurant in Dallas!
For lunch one day, we tried Pecan Lodge, but alas, we were late and just as we got to the head of the line, they ran out... oh well - next trip. We went across to Ain't No Mo Butter Cakes right across the way and got some to take back to the hotel. They didn't make it very far. Oh my gosh! That was all I heard from everyone who tried them. We were sharing with our group and everyone loved them. They were out of the tres leches unfortunately, but the butter cake, chocolate and sock it to me cakes were fantastic. I don't want to think about how many calories were in these cakes, but they were so good - it just doesn't matter.
Went to Twisted Root Burger and took our teenagers along with several others. They loved it! My husband and I liked it as well. Great burgers (grass fed beef was a plus) and fries. Awesome milkshakes. The girls with us were very happy with the turkey burger and vegan burger. A very cute place and yummy food.
We saw the Cane Rosso pizza across the street and went back the next day. It was terrific. We think we are pizza experts and have eaten pies all around the country, but these were right up there with the best. The home made mozzarella was fabulous and the pizza crust and sauce superb. We ordered the zeppoles for dessert and they were decadent.
A great place!
Went to Stampede 66 for lunch one day. We were not overly impressed. The service was good and the atmposphere was pleasant. Decor well thought out. I had the brisket which we gave mixed reviews. I thought it had a nice tastel, but my husband wasn't impressed. It was served with a very nice potato salad. Burgers were served on a jalapeno cheddar bun. One thumbs up and one thumbs down on that one. My husband had the chicken fried steak which he said was good but not the best he's ever had. It was served with some very tasty greens though.
We eneded up staying at the Ritz Carlton and had breakfast there every day. It was really good, even for Ritz standards. The French Toast with caramel banana sauce is amazing! Great waffles, eggs done to perfection. We lucked out for breakfast every day. Also had lunch there one day and it was perfection.
Had one lunch in between our appointments at the Hyatt - it was not memorable.

    2. I'd read the recommendations that were given to you, which were all great, and I'm glad you enjoyed your meals here. The chicken fried lobster sounds so amazing! Only in Texas:) The burger on a jalapeño cheese bun also sounds great. Sorry it only got one thumbs up and not two. Thanks for reporting back. The first-hand recent experiences help us locals, too.
