Fiddler's Inn?

kaleokahu Mar 17, 2013 08:07 AM

Hi, All:

Drove past this place last week on my way elsewhere--looked like an appealing, old-school tavern/pub spot. Parking area was jam-full.

I read the reviews on Yelp... Positives are *very* positive, but there are several extremely poor reviews based on hostile service.

Any Hounds have any opinions of the place you'd like to share?

Aloha,
Kaleo

OK, well, unenlightened as I was, Wahine and I dined at Fiddler's last night, and I was very pleased. We didn't get the sassy service a lot of Yelpers dissed them for. The service was good, AAMOF.

We split a 16" sausage pizza and a house salad with balsamic vinaigrette dresing and both were excellent. The pizza sauce in particular I thought was outstanding.

The taplist *was* pretty IPA-heavy, one of the complaints on Yelp. But there were 3-4 other selections that were quite good.

The space is VERY warm and welcoming in a "country general store" sort of way, gets great natural light, and there is decent space between tables, so patrons don't feel jammed.

We look forward to going back, and especially trying the patio on some sunny spring afternoon.

I'm kinda surprised no Hounds responded with opinions...

    Aloha,
    Kaleo

I thought I had left a post on this but I guess it got lost (or I forgot to hit "Reply", whatever).

I used to live in Wedgwood and have been maybe a dozen times. The pizza is good, and I'm an IPA fan so I love the tap list. I would go back, on a weeknight, when it's not overcrowded. The kitchen is small, so Thurs-Sun (depending on the week, I guess, but in general those are busier) it's seriously slow. Which I understand! Small kitchen, nothing they can do. Exept maybe not be total dicks about being so slow. The patio is great, and afternoons are generally good, but I would loathe to go in there on a Friday night.

Thanks for the update Kaleo. I've headed down 35th many times and have noticed the parking lot at this place is always jammed and the place seems to be rocking.

I need to try this place in the next couple of weeks!

I'm glad you liked it. I used to live in Wedgewood and went there many a time. I love the casual ambience and the outdoor seating in warm weather. I also like their food and beer and they even had good wine specials.

I would agree with Brunhilde. It is a very small kitchen and service can get very slow. So I would definitely avoid the place on busy weekend nights unless you're OK with a long wait for your food. The level of crankiness would vary with the server. My friends and I had a mantra when we went there..."It's the Fiddler", and just knew the service might be slow.

Do you know the history of the place?

I did not know the history so I looked it up and it's quite interesting. Also, I never knew I was spelling Wedgwood wrong.

Really cool, zanzibar1, thanks! Musical spoon factory, Lawrence Welk, and an 8-foot tuba... Who woulda thunk it?
