The Crooked Rooster on Rt. 55 in Poughkeepsie
I noticed a sign for a restaurant called The Crooked Rooster a few weeks ago on my way to Poughkeepsie. After hearing rave reviews from some friends, I stopped by today. I had an Irish soda bread muffin and a strawberry banana smoothie--both quite good. The space was welcoming and the menu offerings looked intriguing. It's divided into several sections: Tossed (salads), Bowls (rice/noodle bowls), Grilled, Pressed, Fried, Stacked, and House Specials. Unfortunately, I had just eaten at Subway an hour earlier, so I didn't get to try anything else.
Some dishes on the menu that caught my eye:
The Admiral: Tempura battered shrimp, avocado, crab salad, lettuce and tomato on a hoagie roll
Pressed, braised beef option: Braised beef, boursin cheese, frizzled shallots on ciabatta
Grilled, veggie burger option: house made gluten free veggie burger with vegan rooster sauce, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a gluten free bun
You can check out the entire menu on their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/TheCrookedRo...
The space is great. You can sit at the surfboard tables by the windows, at a long table in the center of the room for larger groups, or in booths. They also have a great foozball table. It's kid-friendly, but in a cool, non-Chuck E. Cheese way. I'm looking forward to bringing my family here.
Thanks for posting! I drove by last month and was intrigued - I don't go 55 too often so I wouldn't have known it opened - will definitely give it a try!
Went back today with the kids. The smoothies were good, but I preferred the strawberry one to the mango one. The Thanksgiving sandwich (roast turkey, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce on Texas toast) was fantastic. It came with homemade potato chips and bowtie pasta salad--both good. My husband loved The Admiral. It's pricey at $14.50, but it is a huge sandwich, definitely enough for two. He said that it was filling and tasty. I'm allergic to shrimp, so I wasn't able to try it, but it looked amazing.
