Conflicting reports about parking at the Fish Market

We were planning on a late lunch at the Fish Market and then leave the car and walk over to the Tidal Basin. I think the cherry blossom festival is going on while were are there.
I read that parking & street parking is pleniful around the Fish Market, but on another message board there were a few reports that it is difficult.

Any thoughts?

  1. Parking anywhere in DC is tough, limited, and where there's a law, there's a ticket. There are commercial parking lots, but a few hours in the middle of the day can run you close to $20.

It's really better to take Metro to some place near where you want to be and then walk, take a bus, cab, or Metro to where you want to go. For what it's worth, I used to work at the FAA which is right across the street from the Hirshhorn Gallery and on nice days I'd walk to the Maine Avenue market. It's about 3/4 mile from the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station.

    1. During the cherry blossom festival, traffic and parking near the fish market are very difficult. The parking lot is large enough to handle a normal fish market crowd, but it cannot accommodate a special events crowd, and especially not the cherry blossom crowd.

Second this. There is parking available on Maine Avenue, but for events like the Cherry Blossoms and Marine Corps Marathon, it fills up REALLY early. Like crack of dawn early. You'd be VERY lucky to find any parking at lunchtime during the Cherry Blossom festival. If you're willing to put up with the weekend track maintenance and 20 minute single tracking maintenance delays, take Metro to L'Enfant and walk to the market.
