Afternoon Tea at the Montcalm Hotel (London)
I was enticed by a Groupon offer and we had tea yesterday at the Montcalm Hotel (lovely place) near Marble Arch. I thought this was maybe the finest tea I've had in a long time. The service was impeccable, friendly and generous and the offerings were skillfully prepared and delicious. I can't believe we ate so much. :-)
There were five kinds of sandwiches - egg mayonnaise in small, light buns, ham with strong mustard, cucumber, salmon and cream cheese, and hummous. I liked that the breads for the sandwiches were of different colours.
There were two scones per person - one plain, one fruit, and the top tier of sweets were first-rate. For each person, there was a toffee pudding sponge cake, fruit tarts with the lightest of light pastries, some sort of chocolate/coconut thing (not my favourite), and the best macarons I've had in London... chewy like they should be.
There was a huge assortment of teas to try, and the waiter often brought over fresh, hot water to top up our steeping kettle. I noticed one can just have a cream tea or a few other options which are much more economical.
