making japanese curry in a rice cooker/crock pot

is there a big difference if i dump all of the ingredients in a rice cooker and cooking it from there compared to caramelizing the onion and searing the meat

    The cooking of the onion greatly changes the flavor, it mellows and sweetens it. For Japanese Curry the Onions are not caramelized but sweated.
