  1. Question for anyone familiar with "Trader Joe's speak" ...what does it mean when a product is labeled "out of stock" in their computer? Normally when I ask about a product that is missing from the shelves the manager (captain?) puts in a reorder and the product arrives at my store in a couple of days. This time was different...the manager said he wasn't sure when they would be getting their Turkey Meatballs back in stock and seemed to be unable to put in a reorder for it- would be a bit shocked if they get discontinued but you never know with Trader Joe's.

It's been a week now and still no Turkey Meatballs...the tag for it is still up in the frozen section but has been filled with the regular meatballs instead.

out of stock means temporarily unavailable, but not discontinued. (the tags till being up is also a sign that they will return.)
could be a packaging change, or a supplier switch, or just that demand got too big, and the supplier is catching up--that happens with small suppliers when demand rises--i remember the frozen brown rice having that problem until the producer got a bigger production facility. so i think you can rest assured that the meatballs will return.

      1. re: chez cherie

Yup the inner peas were out of stock because the manufacturer ran out of packaging.

      2. re: littleflower

"TOS" or temporarily out of stock was explained to me by an employee as meaning that it is out of stock at the warehouse and they don't have an estimate as to when it will become available to order because it is a supplier/manufacturer issue. Case in point is the just mango dried mango, which has been out for several weeks now due to a new harvest being processed.

And sunshine, I was also looking forward to trying the turkey meatballs due to all the yays on the top 5 thread and it has been out of stock at my store in NC since I started looking for them! So it seems to be a widespread problem, but I was assured that they have NOT been discontinued by an employee with a binder who said it was still on his order form.

Thanks to all who posted - good to know it's just a matter of time now until it gets restocked...just have to have the patience to go along with it!

          1. re: ohmyyum

Turkey Meatballs status update: Manager just told me that the turkey meatballs no longer met Trader Joe's product specifications, and that the manufacturer is trying to rework to please Trader Joe's. She said for us to call back in about a week to see about any further updates, so as of right now looks like it could be awhile before TJ's gets them back in stock...

            1. re: ohmyyum

Well it must have been a minor issue because the turkey meatballs were back on the shelf tonight! Yay!!

              1. re: ohmyyum

Was so glad last week to see that both the Just dried mango as well as the just dried pineapple are back in stock.

            2. I posted about this in another thread to much dismay, so I thought I'd repost here: the tomato paste in a tube was discontinued in mid-December 2012.

I must have overlooked that post...that is a shame! Good price for a great product - will have to now go back to the Amore brand at a higher price.

                1. re: ohmyyum

I came here to post the same thing. Went yesterday just to make sure and it's gone-baby-gone. So sad.

                  1. re: NonnieMuss

Drat! I checked at two stores today (before I saw this post)...nothing. The person stocking the aisle didn't seem to know if it was discontinued or just out of stock. Now I know...

                  2. re: ohmyyum

                    I'm still sad about this.

I wanted to get my dad a dozen several months back and was bummed to find out why. We asked why is was discontinued and apparently the small distributor of the product couldn't keep up with the demands.

                  3. Bluecheese flavor of lite laughing cow is gone. I asked and they said they're no longer stocking it. Too bad because they had the best price for that stuff ($2.99 per 8 wedge box). They still have the original swiss cheese flavor as well the garlic herb. I think I'll just pay the extra to get the bluecheese elsewhere.

Not sure of your exact price reference, but I just got a 4-pack of these (swiss cheese flavor) at Costco for $6.50. 8 wedges per pack.

                    2. Looks like the Sugar, Chocolate & Coffee Bean Grinder has been discontinued! I asked last time I was at my TJ's when I could not find it and the worker confirmed it. Boo. I enjoyed using this on ice cream and in my coffee.

Oh I wanted to try it but never got around to buying it! That is a shame.

                      2. The Rosemary Pecans & Cranberries was discontinued :-( It came in the same size little bags as the Sweet & Spicy Pecans, Candied Walnuts, etc. I'm going to attempt to recreate it at home, but still, boo.

Oh, too bad! I don't get to TJ's often, but that was always one of the things I looked for.

                          1. re: Rilke

I don't often go to Trader Joe's, but shoot I have bad luck with them:
-the first version of Thai-spices cashews (or was it peanuts?)
                            -mango sticky rice
                            -mango yoghurt drink (not lassi)
-their take on Cracklin' Oat Bran (the swirls)
                            -rosemary pecans

Shazbot. Are the chocolate edamame still around?

                              I'm eating them right now.

                          2. stone ground grits. damn. those were good, and i shoulda known to stash a couple bags in the freezer.

If you have Bi-Lo grocery stores around you, they sell them cheap. They come in a blue paper package. Can't remember the name but cheaper than TJ's sold them (i'm a southern girl! ).

                              1. re: beachgallisa

thanks, but i'm in so ca. the land of no grits. i loved the stone ground tj ones, and now will have to resort to a store 35 min away (on a good traffic day) or mail order.

                                1. re: chez cherie

You might try Phoenix brand polenta -- I find it at Vons. Yellow, not white, but a great texture.

                            2. The Trader Joes brand frozen veggie breakfast sausage patties. The ingredient list was much less scary than the Morning Star Farm version. Sad to see TJs version go :(

I tried TJ's breakfast sausage patties and went back to Morningstar Farm's, whose flavor and texture are much more like the real thing. So maybe I'm to blame for TJ withdrawing their product. Fortunately for me, they still stock the Morningstar.

                                1. re: chinchi

                                  I miss the veggie sausages!

                                2. The great Cotes du Rhone in the squat bottle with the gold label is TOS with no expected date, which was our everyday go-to wine. Also discontinued, the fruit leather ends and pieces which were great for tiny toddler snacks, and the tomato juice - it's just Garden Patch on the shelves now, which is atrocious.

I don't know anything about the wine, but I just asked about the fruit leather ends and pieces today and they are just TOS, not discontinued-- there is a HUGE difference according to the manager. Apparently, there are periodic shortages of the ends and pieces because they are only produced (as a byproduct) when a new batch of the regular individually wrapped fruit leathers are cut out, but as long as those individual fruit leather exist, so will the ends and pieces.

                                    1. re: ohmyyum

I was told they were TOS about 2 years ago, but last time I asked they said they didn't expect them back...

                                      1. re: thursday

Have you not seen them in your store in the past two years? I got a bag two weeks ago! And a few other times in the past few weeks... following yet another stretch of being out of stock. When I commented that they seemed to go "TOS" more frequently than other things, the manager explained about the production issues. He also said the computer showed they were expected to be back at the warehouse by the end of April (I think he said the 20th, but that that was a tentative date). Either way, they were helpful and took down my name and number and said they would hold some for me as soon as they came back in. I stop in at least once a week anyway as it is on my way home from work, so I will keep checking.

Where are you?? I go to 4 different TJs on a regular basis and none of them have had them in the past 2 years - I've heard the same spiel about production issues, which makes sense, but have never seen them since.

                                          1. re: thursday

Hey Thursday! I am in NC. I just got 4 bags at my store today, and the shelf was full. The girl who has helped me before said they're available to order now, and reiterated that it's not something they can carry all the time due to limited production, so go ask someone at your store to get them while they can-- and then stock up!

                                            1. re: ohmyyum

Great, thanks for the update ohmyyum! I had wanted to try the fruit bits n' pieces, but heard on here they were temporarily out. I have bought a few varieties of the fruit leathers and really liked them - not overly sugary-tasting at all!

                                              1. re: ohmyyum

Thank you for this! I finally saw them again this week and bought a few bags!

Lol they are out of stock again at my store but it's ok because I bough a few bags too!

                                        2. re: ohmyyum

Phew! Glad to hear that. They're a great, cheap, healthy snack.

                                          1. re: AmyH

Agreed! I always take them on backpacking trips. The individually wrapped fruit leathers will suffice if the ends and pieces are not available, but I go through so many of them that it is much more economical to get the bag (not to mention, the one bag generates less trash to pack out that all those wrappers)!

                                          2. re: ohmyyum

The fruit leather ends and pieces are back in stock again! I guess they're going to come and go sporadically, so we need to stock up when we can.

                                          3. re: thursday

Oh no! I loved those fruit leather ends and pieces. How can they discontinue them? WHat will they do with all the trimmings?

                                          4. We really liked the frozen garlic bread and were surprised to find it had been discontinued.

We liked it the first 2 times we had it, but then the third time it was very different and not good at all. Maybe they'll come back with a different garlic bread.

                                            2. Just found out last night that TJ's is "sourcing a new supplier" for the Oriental Rice Crackers that have been around forever. They don't know how long it will be till they are back on the shelves. Hoping they actually will be back...

                                              1. Anyone know if the arugula and parmesan ravioli (refrigerated) have been discontinued? Haven't seen them the last couple times I've gone.

I hope not -- it's my favorite ravioli. It's been MIA at the two Trader Joe's I frequent, but I haven't asked the staff if that variety has been discontinued. Fingers crossed it's just a stock hiccup.

The frozen multigrain croissants are gone. However, the associate said the status ("making room," or something like that) means they should be replaced by a similar product in the future. I hope so, as they were tasty and didn't require the overnight proofing time that their other frozen varieties do.

                                                  1. re: jaba

The ravioli are back! I picked up a package this afternoon. I'm so happy it wasn't axed!

                                                  2. Seems like their curried Nan is no longer. At least, haven't seen it on the shelves and I loved that stuff.

                                                    2. I buy the Omega seed and nuts bread regularly. That was discontinued towards the end of 2012.

I haven't been able to find any for the past month and I didn't think to ask anyone at the store. These were low fat, healthy and good for a quick meal.

Family run bakery, available on the East coast in some grocery stores, but they ship for reasonable prices. The ones you're looking for are the Cookie Bags - Chocolate chip (obviously). Thinnest, crispest chocolate chip cookies I've been able to get anywhere. Good ingredients (all of which I can pronounce, most of which I could draw with a crayon LOL).

As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if TJ's weren't Tate's cookies. Only difference is THE PRICE!!! Tates are expensive..........Ask they why they discontinued them. I bet a lot of people are curious.

                                                                            1. re: mondonucleus

Which is why we loved getting them at TJ's - much better price. I did ask but no one at that particular TJ had a reason. (Maybe it was due to the price differential.). I emailed TJ asking why, but have yet to get a reply. I will post if I hear back. For now, I guess it's back to Tate's, just not as often!

Kind of a pain since now I have to share! I'm convinced they are actually Tate's GF cookies since they taste identical but much cheaper.

                                                                                2. re: mondonucleus

                                                                                3. re: WendyBNY

I think High Brow chocolate chip cookies are identical to these Tate's Bake Shop cookies. I've found Tate's cookies at Central Market (or Whole Foods) here in Austin.

                                                                                4. Are the adzuki bean chips (in a red bag) gone? I looked for them recently and ended up getting another kind of corn chips with some beans in them, but they were nowhere near as good.

                                                                                  1. Just to keep it consistent, I started another thread to end out the year - let's continue the discussion over here:

                                                                                    1. I'm gobsmacked...not to mention crestfallen, that Highbrow's are discontinued. I, too, found them identical to Tates but much more affordable. I found the gluten-free ones to be a bit less tender, even a bit 'stale' tasting. How can we mobilize an action and get them to reinstate this product???

I can't even remember now how much the Highbrow cookies at TJ's were...$2.99?

It is so diabetic friendly and very delicious! Does anyone know of a similar product? It had less than 2grams of sugar and was really good!!

I have purchased Tate's Chocolate Chip Cookies at the Real Food store on Polk Street, in San Francisco. It's a little pricier than the TJ version, but worth it since a good packaged cookie is hard to find. I recently bought Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies, which I used to eat growing up, and I couldn't believe how tasteless they were, like cardboard.

                                                                                              1. re: mugsysf

There's still 5 more days to take advantage of the dollar off price - we have stocked up on them here!

                                                                                                1. re: littleflower

Palo Alto is a bit far for me so I guess I'll just pay full-price at the local store. Thanks for letting me know though!
