Discontinued at Trader Joe's - January 2013 through June 2013

Have not seen a 2013 version of this discussion so thought I would start one...

I wanted to ask if anyone had heard that the frozen Roasted Mashed Sweet Potatoes. I haven't been able to find any for the past month and I didn't think to ask anyone at the store. These were low fat, healthy and good for a quick meal.

They are a seasonal item. Let's lobby for them to be kept year round!

Candied pecans. I just found out on Saturday that they're discontinued, and I'm so, so sad.

I actually prefer their candied walnuts over the pecans. Have you tried them?

I did, and I have to say that they're not the substitute I hoped they'd be. It's just a preference for a different kind of nut, I suppose, but the walnuts seemed a bit blander to me, and more one-note sweet than the pecans.

Plenty of the candied pecans at my TJ store in the Boston area. Asked about themnand the she said no plans to discontinue. Hope she;s right!

Same thing at my store in NC, shaebones. I know there are sometimes regional variations, but it seems like gilded dawn was misled. I prefer the sweet & spicy pecans and the glazed walnuts myself.

Man, I hope you're right. The employee I asked seemed pretty sure, but maybe I'll try a manager next time I'm in. The shelf tag for them was gone, though...

The Triple Ginger Lemon Ice Cream has been discontinued due to nationwide slow sales, and inventory is no longer available at our warehouses....I miss this one, too! My wife and I really liked the Tres Piños white wine blend of Sauv. Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier and Riesling, but found out a week ago that it has been discontinued. Too bad!

My husband loved the curried naan, but after one meal, it gave him the worst breath in creation, and I banned it from the house. Now I love curry, I love naan, but there was something unholy about how it interacted with him.

I hope not -- it's my favorite ravioli. It's been MIA at the two Trader Joe's I frequent, but I haven't asked the staff if that variety has been discontinued. Fingers crossed it's just a stock hiccup.

The frozen multigrain croissants are gone. However, the associate said the status ("making room," or something like that) means they should be replaced by a similar product in the future. I hope so, as they were tasty and didn't require the overnight proofing time that their other frozen varieties do.

Just found out last night that TJ's is "sourcing a new supplier" for the Oriental Rice Crackers that have been around forever. They don't know how long it will be till they are back on the shelves. Hoping they actually will be back...

We liked it the first 2 times we had it, but then the third time it was very different and not good at all. Maybe they'll come back with a different garlic bread.

The great Cotes du Rhone in the squat bottle with the gold label is TOS with no expected date, which was our everyday go-to wine. Also discontinued, the fruit leather ends and pieces which were great for tiny toddler snacks, and the tomato juice - it's just Garden Patch on the shelves now, which is atrocious.

I don't know anything about the wine, but I just asked about the fruit leather ends and pieces today and they are just TOS, not discontinued-- there is a HUGE difference according to the manager. Apparently, there are periodic shortages of the ends and pieces because they are only produced (as a byproduct) when a new batch of the regular individually wrapped fruit leathers are cut out, but as long as those individual fruit leather exist, so will the ends and pieces.

Have you not seen them in your store in the past two years? I got a bag two weeks ago! And a few other times in the past few weeks... following yet another stretch of being out of stock. When I commented that they seemed to go "TOS" more frequently than other things, the manager explained about the production issues. He also said the computer showed they were expected to be back at the warehouse by the end of April (I think he said the 20th, but that that was a tentative date). Either way, they were helpful and took down my name and number and said they would hold some for me as soon as they came back in. I stop in at least once a week anyway as it is on my way home from work, so I will keep checking.

Hey Thursday! I am in NC. I just got 4 bags at my store today, and the shelf was full. The girl who has helped me before said they're available to order now, and reiterated that it's not something they can carry all the time due to limited production, so go ask someone at your store to get them while they can-- and then stock up!

Agreed! I always take them on backpacking trips. The individually wrapped fruit leathers will suffice if the ends and pieces are not available, but I go through so many of them that it is much more economical to get the bag (not to mention, the one bag generates less trash to pack out that all those wrappers)!

I tried TJ's breakfast sausage patties and went back to Morningstar Farm's, whose flavor and texture are much more like the real thing. So maybe I'm to blame for TJ withdrawing their product. Fortunately for me, they still stock the Morningstar.

I don't often go to Trader Joe's, but shoot I have bad luck with them:

                                            -mango sticky rice
                                            -mango yoghurt drink (not lassi)
-their take on Cracklin' Oat Bran (the swirls)

Looks like the Sugar, Chocolate & Coffee Bean Grinder has been discontinued! I asked last time I was at my TJ's when I could not find it and the worker confirmed it. Boo. I enjoyed using this on ice cream and in my coffee.

Oh I wanted to try it but never got around to buying it! That is a shame.

Bluecheese flavor of lite laughing cow is gone. I asked and they said they're no longer stocking it. Too bad because they had the best price for that stuff ($2.99 per 8 wedge box). They still have the original swiss cheese flavor as well the garlic herb. I think I'll just pay the extra to get the bluecheese elsewhere.

I posted about this in another thread to much dismay, so I thought I'd repost here: the tomato paste in a tube was discontinued in mid-December 2012.

Drat! I checked at two stores today (before I saw this post)...nothing. The person stocking the aisle didn't seem to know if it was discontinued or just out of stock. Now I know...

Question for anyone familiar with "Trader Joe's speak" ...what does it mean when a product is labeled "out of stock" in their computer? Normally when I ask about a product that is missing from the shelves the manager (captain?) puts in a reorder and the product arrives at my store in a couple of days. This time was different...the manager said he wasn't sure when they would be getting their Turkey Meatballs back in stock and seemed to be unable to put in a reorder for it- would be a bit shocked if they get discontinued but you never know with Trader Joe's.

It's been a week now and still no Turkey Meatballs...the tag for it is still up in the frozen section but has been filled with the regular meatballs instead.

out of stock means temporarily unavailable, but not discontinued. (the tags till being up is also a sign that they will return.)
could be a packaging change, or a supplier switch, or just that demand got too big, and the supplier is catching up--that happens with small suppliers when demand rises--i remember the frozen brown rice having that problem until the producer got a bigger production facility. so i think you can rest assured that the meatballs will return.

Yup the inner peas were out of stock because the manufacturer ran out of packaging.

"TOS" or temporarily out of stock was explained to me by an employee as meaning that it is out of stock at the warehouse and they don't have an estimate as to when it will become available to order because it is a supplier/manufacturer issue. Case in point is the just mango dried mango, which has been out for several weeks now due to a new harvest being processed.

And sunshine, I was also looking forward to trying the turkey meatballs due to all the yays on the top 5 thread and it has been out of stock at my store in NC since I started looking for them! So it seems to be a widespread problem, but I was assured that they have NOT been discontinued by an employee with a binder who said it was still on his order form.

Turkey Meatballs status update: Manager just told me that the turkey meatballs no longer met Trader Joe's product specifications, and that the manufacturer is trying to rework to please Trader Joe's. She said for us to call back in about a week to see about any further updates, so as of right now looks like it could be awhile before TJ's gets them back in stock...
