last minute - ideas for dinner near Sheraton downtown tonight
Arriving after 6 pm, tonight - staying at the Sheraton downtown on North 17th street in center city. There is Phillips Seafood in the hotel, hoping to find something a bit less expensive. Even though the Terminal Market is staying open later (because of the Flower Show) I don't think we;ll make it in time.
Any last minute ideas? Thanks CH!
(also - breakfast at the Market in the am - the Dutch Eating Place?)
I'd call ahead to Osteria first to see if they can fit you, it's usually booked up on weekends. Even if booked, they can sometimes accommodate a couple people at the bar if that is ok -- but also check the menu as it is not inexpensive, probably on par with Philips -- though you can eat more cheaply if you order carefully and stick with pizza and pasta. Not sure how busy Alla Spina is these days, but I think it's likely they will have availability. The food prices are very reasonable.
A few casual/inexpensive options you won't need a reservation for. Some you'll need to cab it but not too far. Might be a short wait at some.
El Rey - Mexican
Nomad Pizza - fancy pizza
Zavino - fancy pizza (closer but expect to wait a while -- they will txt you when table is ready)
Khyber Pass Pub - Southern pub food, good beer
Lemon Hill - upscale bar
Monk's - Belgian beer bar, mussels (possibly a longer wait)
You should be able to get in pretty much anywhere in Chinatown too, there are a lot of options there.
I second barryg's recommendation for Zavino...it's a do-able walk and the pizzas and small plates are fabulous. I would pass on RTM tonight. Even though they are open late for the Flower Show, it's likely that some of the better vendors (I'm thinking DiNic's) will run out of food earlier in the day.
Just about anything in town is better than Phillip's. If you want seafood, and in particular really good oysters, go to the Oyster House.
See you at the Dutch Eating Place. Do get the pancakes or the apple dumpling. The market opens at 8 AM but will get crowded shortly thereafter, especially with the Flower Show.
