I have looked at the menu to the majority of Spanish restaurants in the DC/Baltimore area and can not for the life of me find a restaurant that serves morcilla. My wife and I fell in love with the real deal when we were in Spain almost two years ago and we would love to spare the couple of thousand dollars worth of flights just to have some blood sausage.
While on the topic of Spanish food, is there anyone who knows of a wine purveyor who carries reasonably priced Spanish cava? I am specifically looking for the semi-seco variety, all I can find is brut.
Hi, I'm new to DC (moved from London 3 weeks ago) so probably not best person to give advice but I'm a huge Spanish food and wine fan so have been checking out where to buy ingredients / menus here.
I've read that Boqueria occasionally has morcilla on the menu, and I think that it's in their chicken croquetas? You can buy morcilla in Eastern Market if you fancy cooking your own (I got some spanish chorizo from there which was excellent). I just need to source some padron peppers here and I'll be happy!
Re cava, De Vinos in Adams Morgen seemed to have have a few to choose from although I didn't notice semi-seco. They actually had a good selection of Spanish wines, including txakoli which I got obsessed with in San Sebastián last year. It's just round the corner from me (in a temp apartment in Dupont whilst we figure out where to live) so I can check next time I'm there. They seemed very knowledgable in there and will order wine in for you so it may be a good place to try anyway.
I'll have to make a trip down to Eastern Market. In regards to Padron peppers, you can get a reasonable facsimile in the form of shisito peppers at local H-Mart Asian markets on occasion. They taste very similar to the real deal especially fried in oil with course sea salt.
