Awesome meal at Martine in Salt Lake City

Another great 4-day visit to SLC, and the standout dinner was an old favorite, which I hope is not being overlooked in favor of more newfangled options. I started with my new favorite cocktail - a Negroni. Not only did they know how to make it (surprising how many don't), but made it perfectly - not too heavy on the campari. I ordered the $30 prix fixe: a "composed" salad, duck leg confit and apricot almond bread pudding. The salad was very interesting, with a range of flavors and textures (including white asparagus and fennel). The duck was falling off the bone, in a delicious rich but not overpowering sauce, and the side of caramelized kale was one of the most delicious ways to cook kale I've ever tasted. There was also a puff pastry of some sort made with blue cheese. The bread pudding was fantastic. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, without being too "in my face" (I was dining alone and enjoying reading a book). She really helped me pick the perfect wine to accompany the duck. The environment is classy and yet comfortable. By contrast, my visit to Tin Angel (much touted on the board), was rather unimpressive. Martine is a true classic.
