Saturday my wife had a craving for grilled cheese and tomato soup, so we ended up at Audubon Circle for the first time. I've known about it for years, but for whatever reason I've never gone in. The inside was a lot sleaker than you'd expect. The zebra wood cabinets and the stone counters give it a surprisingly hip feel. Crowd was also older than you'd expect in that neighborhood.
The aformentioned grilled cheese was just ok. The tomato soup was tremendous. The veggie dumplings were also really solid. The highlight of the evening was taking the pressed turkey sandwich and dipping it into the soup. The beer list was perfectly acceptable with local options like Portico and Notch, as well as macros like Guinness. One thing that stands out is that it felt like a tremendous value - solid food, reasonable prices, nice service. We will definitely be back at some point. Have any other Hounds been in recently?
Audubon is very good, consistent and it has been for a very long time. The turkey press is one of my favorites too. Their burger (and veggie) burger are outstanding as well. I lament that they stopped doing their excellent wings several years ago. They have a nice beer selection and pour a stiff cocktail. Bar service in general is very friendly. Audubon is always our go to before Sox games, and it is generally easy to get a table. Their patio tables out back are very nice in the warm weather.
Love this place. Their salad with grilled chicken has to one of the best deals in the city. With a dogfish head on tap it's a great meal. My only minor gripe is I wish they'd switch things up a bit more and have some new specials every so often. But what they do, they do well. And the acoustics are remarkably good, even when crowded.
