Amara -- hot chocolate in Pasadena

Was out in the Pasadena area for the PCC flea market. Went to Lucky Baldwin's (lovely fish and chips and curry), walked around Old Town (Gold Bug was... interesting), and then a friend insisted that we go to Amara (which is very close to Lucky Baldwin's). I don't much about the place, but they have a variety of coffee, hot chocolates (which can also be ordered iced), churros, and some baked goods. My friend said that they bake the croissants (which looked fantastically flaky) on-site, but I'm not sure if they're also making the dough themselves.

At any rate, I had the basic "Venezuelan" hot chocolate, which was delicious. Thick, rich, and fairly complex. They also have one that has chile. I didn't try it, but my partner had a sip and thought it was excellent. The owner also allowed us to sample some "filled" chocolate candy (w/ tequila and spices). Didn't sample the churros (since I had had a weekend of glutinous eating already), but they looked similar to the ones at Churros Calientes in West LA, except a bit longer.

My only complaint is that 8 oz of hot chocolate is simply too much to drink unless that's all you're planning to eat that day....

Apparently they have wi-fi (at least, lots of people were working on their computers).
