Special Diet restaurant help please
I have friends coming in from boston and they can't have gluten or dairy, would like to know if anyone has any suggestions?
Chinatown. Stick with rice over noodles, and there's no dairy in Chinese cuisine to begin with. Really, just about any Asian cuisne - Japanese, Korean - could say the same thing about.
Otherwise... gluten and dairy are both fairly easy to avoid if you're not going for pasta, pizza, or sandwiches. Pick almost any restaurant and you'll things on the menu.
Can you be a bit more specific - price point? Cuisine styles? Meals? (Lunch, brunch, dinner?) - the question is a bit vague...

However, soy sauce contains wheat!
Sometimes you can find secret gluten also in miso paste, fish sauce, hoisin, oyster sauce, rice wine, wasabi, Korean pepper paste (some of these are sometimes OK though).
Ah, true, I'd spaced on that. There are wheat-free soy sauces, of course, but because soybeans are often grown in rotation with wheat they're subject to cross-contamination regardless.
I guess it would depend on whether the person has Celiac's or has just jumped on the gluten-free diet trend.
