(Note: on the LA board, JFarah mentioned he was planning on dining at an Italian restaurant in Carmel ( http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8921... ) and this was the resulting discussion -- The Chowhound Team)

Where in Carmel are you going...Cantinetta Luca, Don Giovanni's, or ??

Cassanova one night.... and Andre’s Bouchee Bistro and Wine Bar the next.

We're also having dinner in Santa Barbara, but don't have any real plans. Please let me know if you have some suggestions. Thanks!!

Casanova is great, but I would very strongly suggest you reconsider Bouchée. There are many far, far better choices. Highly recommend 1833 Restaurant in nearby Monterey.

Thanks so much!! I have changed my reservations. Now dining at 1883. The setting looks very romantic.

Great! Bouchée is very pretentious, expensive and uncomfortable. When there last year, the sommelier told us that there was nothing on the wine list for less than $100 that he would recommend. I ordered a $90 bottle of red wine from a winery that I was familiar with, and when it was served it was very warm, perhaps 80-90 degrees. He was effusive in his disapproval in front of my guests when I asked for it to iced for a few minutes before serving. Also, the food was ok, but not great. On the other hand, 1833 was wonderful...comfortable, friendly, relaxed with terrific food and great service. Enjoy!!
