intimate wife's birthday dinner- anybody been to e. baldi lately?

Hi all,
Has anyone been to e. baldi lately? I need a place to take the wife for her birthday- I need intimate, smallish, top-tier food, and a serious/deep wine list...
Thought this might be the place, as the Talking Heads song goes.
Other ideas were Spago, n/naka, Hungry Cat... all of which she hasn't been to.
Can't quite afford Providence and Urasawa and their $300/pp ilk, unfortunately.

But, please, I know n/naka is a perennial Chowhound fav, so please at least chime in on e. baldi first before sending me there!
