Mama Reacer's in Del Ray - Report

This place is a small deli under new management. I think it used to be the Mt Vernon Deli? It is mostly a sub shop but does have a few prepared meals like fried chicken and fish and grilled pork chops.

I got the pork chops with two sides - greens and cabbage. The vegetables were very well prepared, so I give them high marks. The pork chops were thin, lean, and tough. The flimsy plastic utensils were no match for those suckers.

The sandwiches look very good, so maybe I'll try one of those at some point.

  1. I had the fried whiting and it was very good. Not the huge slabs I'm used to from Horace & Dickies, but still fried hard. I was suprised that they didn't have a deepfat fryer. They were using a heavy pan on top of the oven. I liked the greens, too. I wanted to try the fried chicken, but they were out.

Shame about the pork chops. I wish they deepfried them like Levis, but those are pretty thick, with a thick layer of fat on them. The thin stuff would probably be inedible deepfried. Really nice people and looking forward to trying those breakfast sandwiches.

Yes, the people seem very, very nice so I'd like them to succeed.

Pan fried chicken sounds really good to me, so 'll try that the next time.
