Dean and Deluca: is anything a good value?

stratford Feb 25, 2013 03:43 PM

Everything at this store seems so expensive. Is there anything at all that they sell that you would be glad to buy without feeling like you were just gouged?

Really depends on the store and the products. Which location are you speaking of and whetther a coffee shop or a full service store.

Can't but help asking were you the cheese monger half of D&D?

I've been so out of touch with what they have been doing because I didn't know there was any other location than the store in Soho.

Was at the Soho store for three years after retiring from real work. Had a great time there. They charged a lot most of the time as their sourcing was impeccable in all departments.

When was that? I might have bought cheese from you. Always had great stuff there.

Sorry - but you're right. Their prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Hubby & I always get big laughs of astonishment every time their newest catalog arrives in the mail.

That said, I've sent a lot of their stuff as gifts that have always been well-received. For myself, I stick to sale items.

Didn't know they had a catalog. Maybe I'll get one and laugh along with you.

Try Fairway, half the price of D & D.

I'm working on a 12-oz. bag of coffee that is *absolutely* worth the $13 or $14 I paid for it at D&D Soho. It's their Manhattan blend, and it is damn fine.

IMO, Zabar's Special Blend at $7.99 for a pound (16 oz.) is not only a great deal but is really good coffee! Go Zabar's!
