I'm looking for frozen papaya (for smoothies and other beverages). I went to my local Super 88, but no luck.

Anyone have a source?

TIA!

Casa Lucas on 24th Street in SF has lots of frozen fruits. I don't think frozen papaya is as common as other fruits, but they might have it. You could give them a call and ask: (415) 826-4334

Where are looking for this, though? You didn't mention a location in your post.

I live in Menlo Park, but I come up to SF sometimes, and venture down to SJ less often. East Bay is like a 2x a year trip, *unless* there is frozen papaya. In which case, I'd make the effort. :)

I just called Casa Lucas, they don't stock it. Boo.

      Other suggestions?

It's easy to prep, and freeze from fresh. I'll buy large Mexican papayas, peel, and chunk for juicing.

Any tips to keep them from sticking together / developing freezer burn?

          Hi codemonkey,

That's a great question about how to best freeze papaya....if you don't mind, I'd suggest re-posting it in the Home Cooking category, where you'll be asking hounds from all over the world (not just the Bay Area). You can navigate here, and ask your question: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/31

Because this discussion is in the San Francisco category, let's keep things here focused on where to find papaya in the Bay Area.
