The Cook Room in Middle Island is amazing!!
We read a review of The Cook Room in Middle Island so we took the ride Sunday for a late breakfast.
I had been there back in the day when it was a run down diner and bacon and eggs was as adventurous as I would get.
What an amazing transformation!! Totally renovated but in keeping with the old diner charm. Upscale, gourmet breakfast and lunch menu.
The best Huevos Rancheros I have ever had. Perfectly cooked home fries and chorizo with a side of avacado!! WOW!! I could not finish it.
My lovely wife got stuffed French Toast with blueberries and strawberries. It was amazing.
I have to get back there and try their lunch sammiches.
It was so busy we sat at the counter.
Very friendly service too.
No dinner service. Cash only.
On your advice, we went out of our way to stop there today, and they went out of their way to accomodate our every need. I had to get the Huevos Rancheros too, and my husband got the Mini Egg Sliders, which were on seemingly homemade biscuits with tons of thin sliced Canadian bacon. The mountain of hash browns on each platter miraculously had burned bits throughout, so rare to find nowadays. What I really loved is they asked how you wanted your eggs and if you wanted them over easy they knew just what you meant. Their thick chocolate shake plus the egg cream I ordered came in Mason jars; was a nice touch, especially since the menu leaned a little towards Southern cooking. They are in the middle of nowhere but the clientele seemed to belie that fact. Sort of like a dream, with a happy ending!
Oh and they close at 2:30, so we just made it, not that they rushed us in the least. They could not have been more hospitable. I heard just before we headed over that they were featured on Diners, Dives and whatever, can't verify at this time but if that is what keeps them in business then I am grateful. The woman who told me seemed sure of her facts! Either way, hope they're around for a long, long time.
