Promised daughter Thai food for dinner. She lives near king cross but can get most places around town. Nothing too trendy or pricy. Just want good taste

If you want less expensive, bog-standard Thai, there's always the chain, Busaba Eathai.

Then Heron is a great bargain if the food sold is the best Thai in London.

Mains at Busaba run, according to their website, from about £7-£9. I have no idea what Heron charges.

The Heron gets recommended to me a lot, on and off Chowhound.

There's also Naamyaa cafe at Angel which is very close by which is different and interesting Thai food but I don't think it's in the same class as the Heron.

The Heron is only a short tube ride to Edgeware Rd and I regard it as one of the best if not the best Thai place in London. Loads of posts about it are on here.

Fro what I see the avg per person is £25. In the US Thai is reasonable at about half that cost

Yeah but NYC has something like twice as many places within the quality spectrum of The Heron with a lot of the main ingredients being sourced from domestic suppliers in California.

The last time I went there it came to I think 53 pounds for two before service, but we did have alcohol.

I'll still maintain that 101 is the better of the two. I also used to like the meals at Sri Thai supermarket in Sheperd's Bush in addition to Mantannah in South Norwood.
