Need a place to "carb up" before Boston half marathon in May

michelep Feb 24, 2013 01:00 PM

I will be staying in the Waterfront/Seaport area the night before this race,
Willing to travel to North End or anywhere else close by for some good pasta. Any recommendations? Prefer a restaurant that takes reservations.

You've got a couple of good choices in the Seaport. Sportello is great, but more of an upscale contemporary Italian restaurant. If you're looking for a more classic "red sauce" Italian restaurant, Salvatore's is great. Nothing cutting edge but good. There's also the Daily Catch, which specializes in squid and pasta. The original is in the North End.
As for the North End, I know you said you wanted a place that takes reservations, but Giacommo's really lives up to all of its hype, but you can bet on a wait in line. No reservations accepted. They have a South End location that DOES take reservations. I've never been but it gets good reviews.

I am partial to the North End when in Boston ( Mare, L'Osteria, Pagliuca;s Massiminos ) but Salvatore's is a great suggestion if you're looking to carb load in the Seaport area.

Good suggestions by uncle. The walk over to the north end is very nice and is about 25 minutes. You may want to try out the original daily catch. LoConte on Salem street is one to look at.

My go to was a tuna melt with fries. Should be fine for a halfer.

The BAA puts on a pre-race pasta party that welcomes you as part of your entrant's race package. But, if you have decided to go it on your own, I would second the North End and a reservation. It's a mad, mad weekend.

I don't see the baa on the web site but it is presented by new balance. The event is for a great cause, fallen law enforcement officers.

I'm pretty sure the BAA pasta party is only for the marathon in April. The half in May is the law enforcement half and not sponsored by the BAA. It's not as crazy because the half is on Memorial Day weekend.

Beetlebug, you're right, I read marathon instead of half marathon.

This is not correct. There is no pre-race pasta event before the half-marathon.

Cheesecake Factory takes reservations and has plenty of pasta.

Thanks all for your great suggestions! I will probably make a reservation at one of the "North End" establishments
