Yummy Burgers?

willscarlett Feb 24, 2013 10:31 AM

I'll be working an event in the city tomorrow and will be finished around 1:30. I'm sure I'll be hungry after and I'd like to try one of the less ordinary burgers, or Pat LaFrieda mixtures.

What would people suggest? I was thinking either Union Square Cafe, ABC Kitchen, The Dutch or Spotted Pig. Any other suggestions? I've already had the burger at Gramercy Tavern, Five Napkin Burger, Minetta Tavern, 21 Club and Burger Joint.

    My favorite is BLT Burger.

The lamb burger at the Breslin is excellent, and the thrice-cooked fries rock. The cheeseburger at Black Market on Ave. A is great too: maybe a bit overly salted, but juicy & beefy. Fries are meh.

The Breslin has been on my list. I'm familiar with Black Market too, but have heard mixed things.

Love the fries at the Breslin, they are basically perfect.

Spotted Pig only does the super skinny shoestrings.

I liked Black Market too but not as much as Burger & Barrel or Market Table (brunch only I think), which are both well seasoned burgers.

I haven't been to Burger & Barrel, but I did have the Bash Burger at Lure Fishbar. Pretty darn good.

Spotted Pig is my personal favorite.

Another burger that's delicious: the burger served in the lobby at the Ace Hotel (from the Breslin kitchen). It's a LaFrieda beef blend and is just an excellent standard burger.

I also like the burgers at Corner Bistro in the West Village, if you want something traditional and "pub-style".

Thanks for the vote for Spotted Pig.

So, Ace Hotel serves a burger different than Breslin's lamb burger?

I've also heard of Corner Bistro - you recommend it?

                Wolfgang's is a steakhouse, yes?

Union Square Cafe is always a good choice for a great burger. If you are dining alone, sit at the bar. The bar staff is wonderful and you will be treated very well.

I ended up trying The Spotted Pig. It was yummy, but just good and not exceptional. I ordered it medium rare and it came out a bit more cooked than I'd have liked, tho still pink. I also thought that while the cheese worked well with the burger, it was a bit overpowering. Even after scraping off the cheese, t he meat still had an aftertaste of that powerful cheese.
