San Diego Dish of the Month for March - VOTE HERE

Lots of single nominations, but 2 items got more than a single mention. So here are your choice for March.

Vote for one and remember this will be the dish we seek out in restaurants far and wide, from Oceanside to San Ysidro, from the beach cites to the Imperial County line... for 31 days

Do they make a soy based Carne Asada?

Some places have been known to use soy sauce in the marinade. I think that's as close as you're going to get ;-)

          1. re: Beach Chick

Hey BC, you've surfaced!! looks like this month will most likely be ...MEAT so, I'd suggest you breakout the carnivore in you and go for it... and vote pattymelt.

            1. re: cstr

Prison work furlough program is brutal..
              ; )

              1. re: Beach Chick

What, busted for smuggling tofu into SD?

                1. re: cstr

There is a new place called Sherman's Shack on 25th and....Market? ish? They have soy tacos, so they might be able to serve a CAB-esque soy burrito.

      2. So the nom thread was actually a primary election?
A few things got more than one mention, including fried chicken and the patty melt. I would have voted for either of those over CB and CAB. Why restrict? Free election! Free election!

Since I'll be out of town the last week of March, I nominate Island to take over the nomination/voting responsibilities for April. :-)

Actually, it probably is a good idea to have someone take over the organization of this topic from time to time.

          1. re: DiningDiva

No thanks. Voting and eating are the extent of my responsibilities and I'm still working on Feb.
5 more days people, get your chile rellenos while they're hot!

                1. CARNE.

(and I gave up lent altogether)

I count 7 to 3 so far in favor of the CAB. Obviously your tactics to sway the masses are working.

                      CORNED BEEF

I agree that we should try to make it more thematic by month. CAB can be for a filler month when we can't think of anything else

                      1. re: karaethon

Yes, CORNED BEEF makes sense for March.

April has Easter..some sort of pork comes to mind..

                        1. re: Cathy

I would go for rabbit in April (easter)

                          1. re: honkman

                            Honkman humor!

                            Maybe rewarmed Lamb?

                            (Catholic humor)

Well if we're talking Easter there is always chocolate, hard boiled eggs and Peeps.

                    2. can I vote for carnitas instead of carne asada?

                            CORNED BEEF

because I have never had a version that even comes close to chow-worthy.

                              1. re: Island

Well, another reason I want Corned Beef is I know a place that has a good one (at least in my opinion) and would post about it in the topic. if we end up with cab, I'll just ignore the post in all likelihood

                                1. re: karaethon

Dropping any hints.... does it come with the other goodies like, cabbage, turnip, carrot, potato etc.

                                  1. re: cstr

Just go out to Valley Meats in Casa de Oro and get one (or 2 or 3) from them. They're corned in house and are VERY good. Plus the butchers there are nice

                                      'They're corned in house'

I'm not going to even go there..
                                      ; )

                                      1. re: Beach Chick

haha yes, the place I have in mind "corns in house"

                                      2. re: DiningDiva

Bisher's in Poway corns their own also.

Learned that lesson from Chile Rellenos- pick something that can be enjoyed.

Get to the Linkery on St. Pats to try some chow-worthy CB:

At the Linkery, we'll open at 11am and feature:

                                        America's most handmade Reuben, with grass-fed house-cured corned beef, house made swirly rye bread, house cured sauerkraut and house made dressing;
House cured corned beef dinner with house baked soda bread (3pm to close)
House cured corned beef farm hash (11am-3pm)

                                3. CAB.
Excluding reubens I don't even know where to begin to find who serves corned beef other than on St Pat's day.

Hey why not report on both as long as the winner is sampled?

I assume someone will be able to find a corned beef burrito that week.

                                  2. Does Corned Beef Hash count?

If corned beef wins, I'd say yes
