Reservations at Pizzeria Mozza

My husband REALLY wants to go to this place and has for years. I'd like to take him for his birthday, but reservations look nearly impossible to get (I tried for his birthday last year) since I'd rather not eat dinner at 5 or 10pm. I don't have to eat dinner at 7pm (I could do 9) but blocking out everything from 5-10p doesn't give me a lot of options.

Is it better to call for reservations? Or use Open Table? ANY advice at all would be appreciated.

  1. You have to call them everyday...up to the day that you want to go. I was only offered 5PM and 10PM reservations when I called to get reservations 2 weeks in advance. However, when I called the day of my reservation as soon as the lines open for the day, they were able to get us in at 8PM. It's almost as if they hold on to reservations until the last possible chance. Keep calling...good luck!

    1. 30 day advance call will get you a reservation when you want.

the bar seating, and actually my favorite place to sit there, are all first come first serve. on the weekdays, it's not that bad a wait anymore. plus, you can always get a drink at osteria first.

they always seem to open up better reservation times the day off both on the phone and on opentable.

      1. It's not as crazy these days. Calling 2 weeks in advance usually gets me in. Certain popular places don't release their prime time seatings on Opentable. You can also wait in line for a seat at the bar. I actually prefer a bar seat sometimes so you can watch them make the pies.

There is also P.Mozza OC where 2-3 days and even the same day depending on the night will get you a seat.

        1. On opentable:

          1. For next tuesday, they have 615, 730, 745 and more.

Most nights are only 5 or 515 on opentable.

I'd just call. My guess is they don't put the reservations out there to appear more popular, though they are plenty busy.

FWIW, I think it's gone downhill slightly in the past year or so. I feel like I'm in an assembly line, waiting to get my table turned over as soon as they can.

          1. At Mozza OC, we go most any weekday between 4:30 and 5:00 pm and have no problem being seated at he counter. No reservation, no hassle, and we think these are the best seats in the house. We are entertained by the cooks making salads, pizzas, etc. and while having a drink or glass of wine decide what to order. We never reserve, or sit at a table, and always have a good time.
