Manhattan Deli at the Atlantis [Reno]

My cousin has been in Reno off and on the last few weeks on business, and she has been exploring local restaurants...and of course invited me to join her a few times! (Don't worry; I have repayed the favor with a home-cooked meal or two:-). Anyway, last week she raved about the food at the Manhattan Deli in the Atlantis. Since this is a place I've never even thought about, I convinced her we should go to yesterday to see if its as good as she initially thought. (I tend to trust her opinions on food; she is a nice Jewish girl from Mexico, and in my experience that makes for good food sense:-). Anyway, I have to agree with her that it is definitely worth the trip. The matzoh ball soup in particular...omg, that was the biggest, lightest, and best matzoh ball I've had in a long time! (She and I both had the cup-sized serving, which is a small bowl mostly filled with that lovely huge matzoh ball surrounded by a small amount of tasty chicken broth). She had the bagel, lox, and cream cheese: and as she had reported to me earlier the lox is excellent quality and the serving is very generous. I couldn't resist the cabbage rolls...again, a large serving (3 rolls), served with a sweet/sour sauce, mashed potatoes, and veggies for 12 dollars. The rolls were tasty although the cabbage was a little overcooked and the sweet/sour sauce a little heavy on the sweet. The leftover rolls did make a great breakfast in the am....(they are stuffed with a ground beef/rice mixture). We finished with blintzes for dessert....but couldn't eat half of serving between the two of us (I let Olga take the blintzes for her breakfast in the hotel....). We left stuffed. Prices are reasonable, and I saw some amazing-looking corned beef sandwiches going to another table. Olga is right: this place is a little hidden gem. Go, if only for that matzoh ball.....

  1. Good to know. We occasionally go to The Atlantis to "make our donation to the local economy" :)

    1. Is the matzoh ball soup better than mine? :-)

lol....the broth isn't, Susan. The matzoh ball, well, I'll just have to do a taste test soon:-)
