So Kong Dong Tofu Restaurant opening in Hartsdale! (Korean)
I was at a shopping plaza off Central Ave near White Plains (where McDonald's is), and saw a sign that said the above restaurant is coming soon. The place is where a fabric store used to be, and it is currently under construction. H-Mart, Saigonese, and this. Pretty exciting recent additions to Westchester! Hope more follows!
I was there for lunch yesterday. The place wasn't busy yet when I got there, but my food took quite awhile to be prepared. Later on the place was full and waits must have been even worse. But since it is only their 3rd-4th day I figure they will get into the flow soon enough.
I had the soon dubu jjigae with beef and seafood. There were four very nice banchan with the meal, so good I finished them before the meal arrived and they brought more. The soon dubu jjigae came out boiling furiously. I waited for it to slow down to a bubble and broke in my raw egg and stirred it in a little. Managed to burn my mouth several times, but it was tasty. Not the best I've had, but pretty good.
The only complaint that the rice cooked in a stone pot wasn't crispy and browned on the bottom and sides like it should be, and they didn't come around with boiling water near the end of the rice to make the rice "soup" as is normally done.
They don't have a liquor license yet so no beer or soju.
Took out lunch today. Got the vegetable ramen soup. Tofu was good, virtually no vegetables. Banchans for this take out order were cuke kimchee and traditional cabbage kimchee, which I chose not to eat as they prob contain fish sauce (I'm veg). In all, over $10 for two bowls of somewhat interesting but not fabulous soup.
