What does Toronto excel at -uniquely- compared to other cities in north america?

It's a tough question- what does Toronto excel at food wise that can't be had at the same quality anywhere else in Canada or the USA.
I have a very good buddy- who is very well traveled in town tomorrow and I want to take him to eat something awesome- and uniquely so- in Toronto.
What comes to mind is "Ethnic". I'd love to try a place that is unique to our melting pot and has amazing food - perhaps that he's never had! Atmosphere and pricing are not nearly as important as my taste buds.

Difficulty +1- Has to be downtown - or at least on a subway line and have tables to eat in.

Carribean food came to mind and I scrounged the board but only came up with Carribean Bistro- but I'm certain you all can do better than that.

Thanks!

My personal feeling on the matter is that Toronto probably has some of the best Cantonese Chinese in North America, though that might not be helpful since all the good stuff is in Scarborough/Markham/Richmond Hill. I like Maple Yip for dinner but you can only really get a feel for it when you have multiple people so that you can order multiple dishes.
