Tonkin on Main St
Is new, taking over the space that Honolulu Cafe resided for many many years.
The name got my attention ;-) (research how the Vietnam conflict "started")
Looks like it could be just a typical pho operation, as opposed to being trendy fusiony like Indochine, DD Mau and the likes. But who knows. I might TOFTT, since the other pho place "Vietnam" a few doors north is not tolerable, and either Petit Saigon and Bon are too far south to walk to.
Tonkin is owned by the family of a friend of mine, so I've heard a lot about it through its development. From what I understand, it will be reasonably traditional but will have an extensive vegan menu and a cool vibe (my pal is in charge of the vegan menu and the design.) Admittedly I haven't eaten there yet, but I have been excited about the opening for months.
