  1. Packaged basturma is fairly easy to find in the Middle Eastern markets I've been to around SE Michigan. Usually under the "Ohanyan's" brand. I don't think that I've seen the "Mister Basturma" brand in a while.

Mediterranean Market at Stone School and Ellsworth Rd. in Ann Arbor frequently has fresh basturma. It also has good makanek (spiced lamb sausage).

It was over basturma and Armenian brandy that I bonded with my then-future father-in-law.

I visited there today and they said they did not have any for the last month :(

i did get the Makanek though and was very happy!

    2. I had an Armenian roommate in Ann Arbor long ago who introduced me to it. That's some tasty spiced meat.

        1. I don't know, but I'd phone the fellow over at Balkan Meats and ask him. If he doesn't do basturma he may well have something similar, or know who does.

I haven't been by there in a while. I'm kind of surprised he's survived at that location, but per a conversation I had with him a few years back that location was grandfathered in for meat processing. If he moved the new regs would make it about impossible for his business to survive given the cost of new equipment necessary to comply for certification.
