Adding brown sugar to molasses in recipe

I'm a wee short (a half ) with an amount of molasses for a steamed brown bread recipe so I'm thinking of making and adding brown sugar syrup. Will it work ?

I wouldn't even bother making a syrup - just add the brown sugar and a little water (3 parts brown sugar to 1 part water) and that ought to work just fine.
If you're familiar with the recipe's consistency when made as it should be, I would suggest just adding the sugar and withholding the water until you've got it all mixed up, and then just thin the batter as needed.
