Does anyone know what's happening with Cafe Brazil in Allston?

Cafe Brazil has looked closed for the last few weeks I have driven by it. I just figured the owner must be on a long Brazilian vacation. But now I just tried to call them and the numbers are not in service. Say it isn't so!!! I love this place ...

What a huge loss if they're gone for good. I hope someone decides to take over the business and leave it as is. Thinking back on how many great meals i've had there is making me crave a plate of fejiao tropeiro and a Xingu.

I used to LOVE the beef rolet, bacon and cheese rolled up into thin filets of beef...so tasty with there excellent rice beans and the mixed veggies. I also loved the bread they served with the hot chili oil for dipping, is it bad I would butter AND oil my bread?

Not as bad as when I'd eat the marinated garlic cloves directly out of the oil.

Only because the butter might limit the use of the oil. And garlic is a nutritious vegetable.

Apparently it has been sold to the owners of the Hill Tavern, according to a friend of a friend.

Oh, yay. Because another bullshit "tavern" is just exactly what this neighborhood needs.

mmocpi the rumor is that Valter the owner was looking to retire and found a purchaser (not necessarily a Brazilian restaurant). Since he has such strong ties to the community/area including the Brazilian newspapers its odd that he hasn't made any comment although its a common time of year for a Brazilian vacation (now would be the time to return after Carnaval so maybe something will come out). It does seem probable that its closed, but until there is confirmation and steps to a sale such as license transfers/renovations occur you can hope for a return.

Well, crap. Not just one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood, but in all of Boston. I'm sorry to have taken it so for granted.
