Looking to impress with a great takeout item, but I won't have immediate access to a fridge or oven. What do you suggest? Thanks.

    Patacan Pisao http://www.pataconpisaonyc.com/
Kabab rolls from Kababish (Jackson Heights
)Cemitas from any number of Mexican places along Roosevelt Ave, especially Taquería Coatzingo or Tía Julia.
Freshly made sandwich rolls at Cedars Meat House in Astoria.
Merguez sandwich from LIttle Morocco in Astoria.
Lamb or Pork sandwiches from the Xi'an places in Flushing.
Nonna's special sandwich (or any of the daily special sandwiches) at Leo's Latticini in Corona.

Empanadas definitely fall under the portable and delicious category. Try Mama's Empanadas in Sunnyside or Empanada Cafe in Corona. Both offer dozens of varieties, some unexpected, all delish.

I'd recommend the cold appetizer assortment plate from Istanbul in Rego Park (on Queens Blvd. near 63rd Drive). It could probably sit at (cool) room temp for a couple of hours with no harm done. Ask for the Turkish bread to go with it. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/...
