Cookbook of the Month 2013: The Voting Thread

Although there was a clear frontrunner this month, after a reasonably quiet nomination period, the general consensus seems to be for a run-off. So here it is!

Please cast your votes for one of the following

EVERY GRAIN OF RICE by Fuchsia Dunlop - Chinese home cooking by a Chowhound Favourite

AD HOC AT HOME by Thomas Keller - family-style cooking from one of America's top chefs

BURMA by Nancy Duguid - discover a lesser-known Asian cuisine

For more info on the nomination process, check here:

http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/889840

Voting will close at 0800 on Thursday, 21st February, or midnight PST on the 20th. I await your choice and will post the winner as soon as I can!

Really, I could get excited about any one of these books. So I guess I'll let you all decide : )

                            EVERY GRAIN OF RICE

Like some others, I missed the nomination thread. I've saved the thread to my profile now so it should show up in my saved discussions when a new round of nominations or voting is added.

As much as I want to see Burma be COTM, I'm going to be out of town for half of March, and I have a feeling that I won't have time to get into a new cuisine. EGOR is a book I'm more likely to use when things are hectic.

It's the one I own. I would, however, buy Burma. I'll have to look further into "every grain," just because I don't like rice! I'm sure there is more to it, however.

                                          Thanks greedygirl!

The best is to start checking the top red posts and inside there will be a link to nominations, voting and reporting thread for both the COTM and the DOTM. COTM nominations start around 10th of the month and DOTM maybe 20-something of the month.

I can't stand those "Quick Links" - Why CH would marginalize the COTM, one of the highest traffic features on CH is baffling. It feels like some crazy video game where, in order to get access to the secret COTM threads one must first find the tiny font hidden words and then, click on the right sequence of keys....madness. Incredibly frusrating and unnecessarily time consuming. Its pretty bad when those of us who know its there don't even see it because it's faded into the background of the site now.

Dave, please return the COTM to its rightful place of prominance on this site.

But I didnt' announce in the Feb nomination thread that nominations were now open for March, which maybe I should have done. This is making my brain hurt tbh!

I just thought this would be a good idea since a number of folks have commented about either not being aware of/able to find the COTM and with the new format, the issue is compounded because even those of us who do know about the COTM don't have a visual cue to alert us to the nominations and voting any longer. The totally ineffective, not-so-"Quick Links" read the same no matter what's going on whereas in the past, our stickies clearly alerted us to the fact something was happening - be it nominations or voting or, the latest selection announcement.

I will refrain from voting for march as I'm not sure I can find the time to cook. I have every grain of rice so might cook a dish or two if it is selected.
